Shoko Ohkubo is a visiting foreign attorney from Anderson Mori & Tomotsune, one of Japan's largest law firms. She joined Masuda Funai to further expand her understanding of the U.S. legal and business landscape. Her practice focuses on cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate restructurings and other strategic business transactions.
Shoko counsels clients on a wide range of complex matters, including acquisitions, tender offers, share exchanges, overseas listings and post-acquisition reorganizations. She has extensive experience with cross-border transactions involving Japan, the United States, Europe, and broader Asia.
Shoko’s clients operate across diverse industries, including automotive, manufacturing, technology, consumer products and food and beverage. She regularly assists multinational corporations, investors and business owners in navigating transformative transactions and advancing strategic growth initiatives.
In addition to her M&A practice, Shoko has advised clients on labor and employment matters, regulatory compliance and general corporate issues. Earlier in her career, she gained experience in aviation and maritime finance transactions, representing airlines, financial institutions, leasing companies and investors in sophisticated financing arrangements.
Shoko is admitted to practice law in Japan and is a member of the Dai-Ichi Tokyo Bar Association. She was recognized in The Best Lawyers in Japan: Ones to Watch from 2022 through 2026.
