Masuda Funai is pleased to welcome Mami Kato to our Detroit office. A seasoned litigator fluent in both English and Japanese, Mami focuses her practice on labor and employment law. She represents clients in disputes involving federal and Michigan state laws, including Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Mami is a key member of the firm’s Employment, Labor & Benefits Practice Group, counseling clients on workplace investigations, employment policies, and litigation risk—particularly for Japanese companies operating in the U.S.

She has achieved numerous summary judgments and appellate victories in the Sixth Circuit and the Michigan Court of Appeals. Mami currently serves as Chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and regularly contributes to publications from the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE). Prior to her legal career, she spent more than a decade with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, gaining unique insight into organizational operations and client advocacy.

“We are delighted to have Mami join our Detroit office,” said George Kobayashi, President of Masuda Funai. “Her extensive litigation experience, cultural fluency, and leadership in employment law will greatly enhance our ability to serve our clients effectively.”
