Masuda Funai Expands its Immigration Practice

Masuda, Funai, Eifert & Mitchell, Ltd. is pleased to announce the addition of Julie T. Emerick and Derek W. Strain to the Immigration Group in the firm’s Schaumburg, Illinois office. According to Fazila Vaid, Chair of the Immigration Practice Group, “We are excited to have Julie and Derek join our team. Both bring a wealth of immigration experience to Masuda Funai and will provide practical solutions to the complex problems faced by our clients with the same dedication that clients have come to expect from our lawyers.”

Julie is a Senior Associate and her practice is focused on helping clients streamline the global migration process and develop strategic plans for employment-based nonimmigrant and immigrant visa matters. Prior to joining Masuda Funai, she was a solo practitioner handling immigration law exclusively. Julie is admitted to practice in Michigan, Illinois, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois and U.S. Court of Appeals: 7th Circuit. She holds a J.D. from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and a B.A. from John Carroll University.

Derek is a part-time Senior Associate focusing on H-1B, L, E, and TN nonimmigrant visas, PERM labor certification, and I-9s/employer compliance issues. He is fluent in Spanish and is admitted to practice in Illinois and U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. Derek holds a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and B.F.A. from University of Kansas.
